Design experts honour Flash Multi-tone Sounder with red dot award

In one of the most fiercely contested international design competitions, the red dot design award, WERMA Signaltechnik’s Flash Multi-tone Sounder 444 was selected for an “honourable mention”. The award winning signal device clearly stood out from the mass of 3,200 products from over 49 countries submitted to the competition.

Attractive Flash Multi-tone Sounder 444
With its honourable mention, the distinguished jury panel honours products that excel thanks to their highly successful design solutions. The award winning flash multi-tone sounder 444 is user friendly and visually appealing.
Diagonal lines and round forms create a slim appearance which harmoniously blends into the environment. It is equipped with a sound outlet that merges seamlessly into the lens, enabling the LED double flash to achieve the maximum visibility. At the same time the sounder generates a 114dB output formidable for its size.
Robust material, energy-saving LEDs and optimised production techniques make the flash multi-tone sounder a maintenance-free and environmentally friendly product. Thanks to its signal effect, it is especially suited for use on machines, buildings or fire alarm systems.

Award as indication of potential market success
According to design expert Professor Dr. Peter Zec, initiator of the red dot design award: “Successful products distinguish themselves from less successful products by their ability to compete in the real world. Successful participation in a design competition can often be an initial indication of a product’s future economic success.” A distinction such as the red dot award is an important indication of whether a product has the potential to compete internationally.

The red dot award: product design
The awards ceremony will take place on June 29th, 2009 in front of over 1,000 guests at the Opera House in Essen. All the award-winning products will subsequently be displayed at the “Design on stage – winners red dot award: product design 2009” exhibition until July 26th, 2009. This exhibition will be housed in the red dot design museum at the World Heritage Site, the “Zollverein coal mine industrial complex” in Essen. The red dot design competition was first held in 1955 and has now grown to become the biggest and most prestigious design competition in the world.

Critical judgement
A jury of internationally recognised design experts is responsible for judging the products submitted to the annual red dot design award. They test and assess the entries according to criteria such as degree of innovation, functionality, ergonomics, ecological friendliness or the product’s self-explanatory qualities. This year, companies from 49 countries submitted a total of 3,321 products to the jury’s verdict.
