Digital transparency in manufacturing: How Skanska is setting new standards with WeASSIST

With the introduction of WeASSIST, Skanska has fundamentally digitised its manufacturing processes in the Cementation division.

Through real-time data, clear KPIs and an intelligent signalling and cloud system, a production environment that was previously data-poor has been transformed into a transparent, controllable manufacturing environment. In addition to efficiency gains, a cultural shift towards greater acceptance and data-driven collaboration has also been achieved.

Successful adoption by the team despite initial scepticism towards digital monitoring

Introduction of real-time transparency into previously data-poor manufacturing processes

Significant improvement in response times through standardised signals and escalation procedures

Task

Skanska’s manufacturing division faced the challenge that there was hardly any reliable production data available. Whilst processes could be carried out, they could not be systematically analysed or optimised. Furthermore, a new digital solution had to be introduced in an environment characterised by initial scepticism towards monitoring and transparency.

  • Lack of KPIs and an inadequate data foundation
  • No means of conducting structured process analysis
  • Staff scepticism towards new technology
  • Need for faster communication within the production process

We didn’t have any real KPIs or specific measurement methods before.

Solution

With WERMA WeASSIST, a combined solution comprising signal towers and a cloud platform was introduced, which provides real-time visibility of machine statuses and enables centralised data analysis. At the same time, the system serves as a communication and escalation tool directly at the workplace.

  • Real-time visualisation of machine statuses
  • Centralised data collection and KPI-based evaluation
  • ‘Call-to-action’ system for rapid responses during operations
  • Colour-coded signal columns for clear communication (green, yellow, blue, red)
  • Close collaboration during implementation despite IT and security requirements

The support provided by WERMA was invaluable – we were able to contact them at any time.

About WeASSIST

The innovative plug & play solution for comprehensive and permanent monitoring
All relevant data is clearly provided regardless of the source (manufacturer, type and age of machines or manual workstations). Unlike complex MDE/MES systems or IoT solutions, WeASSIST makes any optimisation potential easily visible and evaluable: in real time and from anywhere. WeASSIST is the cross-industry cloud solution for the consistent optimisation of your production processes.
