Acoustic signals warn, protect and guide us in modern industrialised society. They act where caution, prudence and foresight are required, draw attention to emergencies or call for action. Irrespective of language and written culture, they are understood all over the world, just like visual signals. These signals are used when signalling with light is insufficient or even unsuitable. In most cases, acoustic signals are used to signal faults or warn of dangerous situations.
