Intuitive colour signalling of environmental data in public spaces
WERMA’s eSIGN LED signal column is increasingly being used outside traditional industrial environments. A recent example is the real-time display of the UV index: measurement data is automatically converted into an easy-to-understand colour signal. The aim of the application is to make the current UV exposure immediately understandable to everyone – without the need for any prior knowledge or technical expertise. The eSIGN handles the visual presentation of the data, making the readings easy to grasp at a glance.
Clear display of the UV index using colour codes
At the heart of the solution is the eSIGN LED signal column with its large, illuminated segments. It ensures a uniform and highly visible colour display. The UV index is continuously measured, processed electronically and transmitted to the signal column as a 24V signal. The display follows the official UV index scale: green, yellow, orange, red and violet. This provides an instantly understandable visual indication that requires no interpretation.
Flexible customisation of colour logic
A technical advantage of the eSIGN is its freely programmable colour logic. The individual LED segments can be controlled separately and can be flexibly adapted to different applications – from simple status indicators to multi-stage warning systems. “The eSIGN makes it possible to display statuses and measured values in a highly nuanced yet intuitive way,” explains Christoph Müller from Technical Sales at WERMA Signaltechnik. “In particular, the freely definable colour and segment logic open up many new applications beyond traditional industrial uses.”
Good visibility from all directions
A special three-sided mounting bracket was developed for this project. This ensures that the signal column is clearly visible from various angles. The large-area colour display ensures that the current UV exposure can be quickly assessed at any time – regardless of age or prior knowledge. Industrial signalling for new areas of application The project demonstrates how industrial LED signalling can be usefully adapted to new areas. The combination of clear colour coding, robust technology and simple data processing is particularly well-suited to applications in environmental information, safety and public communication. The eSIGN is suitable wherever information needs to be displayed quickly, unambiguously and without the need for explanation.
