WERMA beacons flash all the way to Kenya
The Belgian company Meyland relies on bright and loud products from WERMA.
The family-run company Meyland, based in Adegem, Belgium, specialises in ‘getting things moving’. In recent years, the company has specialised in machinery and equipment for port facilities and is an important player in international ports around the world. Mobile scales and weighing hoppers from Meyland in particular are used all over the world.

Highlights
✔
Safety warning: Meyland uses WERMA signal beacons and sounders to warn people in the vicinity of their large weighing hoppers of any hazards.
✔
Efficient signalling for crane operators: In addition, LED EVS lights indicate to the crane operator whether the machine is ready for the next job or still processing raw materials.
✔
Reliability of the signal beacons in extreme environments: The signal beacons are highly visible even in strong sunlight and the sounders can be clearly heard despite the high ambient noise levels.
Task
The special thing about these weighing hoppers is their enormous size: they are each 13 metres high and weigh more than 90 tonnes. Dielemann says: ‘In view of this colossal size, it is imperative that appropriate warning signals are installed for all persons in the vicinity of these devices.
- People in the immediate vicinity should be warned of impending dangers
- Accidents that cause injury, personal injury or damage to property or the environment should be prevented
Solution
Meyland set out to find a suitable partner for the appropriate signalling of all mobile scales and weighing hoppers. Meyland quickly found what they were looking for in WERMA's extensive and versatile product range and selected suitable signalling lights and sirens to visually and acoustically warn everyone in the vicinity of the impending danger.
- Yellow LED flashing lights and a loud multi-tone siren indicate as soon as the travelling unit of the giant hopper starts to move
- Warning of all persons in the vicinity
- Additional signalling for the crane operator with the aid of red and green LED EVS lights
The large EVS light in green indicates when the machine is ready for the next batch. If, on the other hand, the red signal lights up, the weighing hopper is still processing the raw materials and the crane operator has to wait.

Result
The LED lights from WERMA are extremely bright and powerful, so that they are clearly visible even in the bright surroundings in Kenya. They can also be clearly recognised from a great distance and even in direct sunlight. Meyland has also mounted the lights at an angle so that they can be clearly recognised from any angle.
For acoustic signalling, Meyland relies on the multi-tone siren 144, which can be heard very clearly thanks to its loud 114 decibels, even when the ambient volume at the port is very high.
- Luminous and loud signalling that is clearly perceived and thus ensures maximum safety
- Everyone in the vicinity is warned and can maintain the necessary safety distance
- Complete satisfaction of all involved
