Safe production at HYMER thanks to CO2 traffic lights
The motorhome specialist relies on CO2 trafficlights from WERMA to ensure the health and safety of everyone present.

CO2 Traffic light
Highlights
✔
Positive impact on air quality and the working environment: The CO2 traffic lights improve air quality in the long term, which increases the concentration and performance of employees in closed rooms and reduces the spread of aerosols.
✔
Safety and protection measures for employees: HYMER has installed more than 30 CO2 warning lights to monitor air quality and help ensure the safety of employees, customers and visitors by promoting regular ventilation when CO2 levels are high.
✔
Simple and reliable solution: WERMA's CO2 traffic lights are ready for immediate use thanks to plug & play and require no explanation, as the three-colour traffic light signals (green, yellow, red) indicate clearly and understandably when ventilation is required.
Task
The coronavirus pandemic not only had an impact on the global economy, but also on HYMER: on the one hand, the company enjoyed full order books and the positive consequences of the caravanning trend. On the other hand, the company had to contend with supply bottlenecks, positive coronavirus cases in the workforce and strict requirements from the health and safety authorities.
- The health and protection of employees is HYMER's top priority
- HYMER wants to permanently and reliably display the current status of air quality to everyone present
Solution
Markus Bächle, maintenance team leader for the electrical workshop at HYMER, went in search of suitable devices and came across the solution from WERMA: This three-stage signal tower continuously measures the current CO2 concentration in the ambient air and displays it clearly and reliably using the three traffic light colours - in accordance with the official recommendation of the German Federal Environment Agency:
- If the CO2 concentration is below 1,000 ppm (ppm = parts per million, i.e. parts by volume per million parts by volume), the traffic light turns green, indicating that the room air is OK
- If the CO2 concentration exceeds the value of 1,000 ppm, the traffic light lights up yellow, signalling that ventilation is recommended
- The red signal indicates that shock ventilation is necessary because the CO2 concentration is above 2,000 ppm
- If the limit value of 3,000 ppm is exceeded, a red flashing light indicates the acute urgency of ventilation
- Three-stage signal tower that is ready for immediate use and very easy to install thanks to Plug & Play. Simply plug it in, wait until the automatic calibration is complete and the traffic light is ready for use
- The current CO2 concentration in the ambient air is measured immediately and displayed safely and reliably using the three traffic light colours
The traffic light is clear, easy to understand and requires no explanation. Everyone present can see immediately when the traffic light signal changes to yellow and ventilation is necessary.

Result
More than 30 CO2 traffic lights have now been installed at HYMER. They work perfectly and are very well received by the employees. The signals are clearly visible from all sides thanks to the 360-degree radiation and the extremely bright LED blinking lights guarantee that they are clearly recognisable even in direct sunlight and bright surroundings.
- A significant contribution to the safety of employees, customers and visitors
- The CO2 traffic lights are clear, easy to understand and require no explanation
- Regular and reliable shock ventilation prevents high carbon dioxide and aerosol concentrations in closed rooms
- The air quality can be improved in the long term and thus the concentration and performance of all those present
