Founded by Werner Marquardt. First product:
‘Werma hot air shower’ – a hair dryer with a small motor manufactured in-house.
1953
WERMA produces time switches. Erich Marquardt
has been supporting his brother Werner since the 1950s
with advice, assistance and capital.
1957
Production of buzzers and horns begins, while
production of hair dryers, motors and time switches
comes to an end.
1960
The new building on Dürbheimer Straße: the start of
continuous change and growth in the
following years.
1965
Erich Marquardt leaves the company to devote himself
entirely to the development division of his parents'
company J. & J. Marquardt KG in Rietheim until his
retirement in 1993.
1980
The first optical
and award-winning signal lights are developed during this decade.
1987
Werner Marquardt dies in 1987; his widow Irene
Marquardt takes over the management of the company until 1993.
1992
The first new building doubles the floor space.
1993
Erich Marquardt takes over WERMA from the Irene Marquardt family as managing
partner.
1994
With KombiSIGN, WERMA introduces the world's first modular
signal tower: patented by Erich Marquardt.
This innovation is followed by rapid growth.
1997
WERMA has more than 100 employees and is now
one of the largest suppliers of signal towers in the
world.
2000
WERMA celebrates its 50th anniversary.
2001
Following the death of Erich Marquardt, the shareholders transfer management to Günter Kirn until 2009.
2002
The (at that time) largest new building in the company's history,
which Erich Marquardt had planned, is occupied, providing 3,000 m² of additional production space.
2005
Foundation of the subsidiary WERMA (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. with its own production location for Asia. A subsidiary in Switzerland is opened in Neuhausen am Rheinfall.
2007
Foundation of a subsidiary in the UK.
2008
Foundation of a subsidiary in France.
2009
Foundation of a subsidiary in Belgium.

Matthias Marquardt, Erich Marquardt's son, becomes Managing Director.
2012
Foundation of a subsidiary in the USA.
2015
WERMA has more than 300 employees worldwide. WERMA celebrates its 65th anniversary.
2016
WERMA expands production area by 4,100 m².
2018
Foundation of a subsidiary in Italy.
2019
WERMA Shanghai and WERMA USA each move into new company buildings.
2021
WERMA presents the eSIGN – a signal tower that sets new standards thanks to its electronic modularity.
2022
Market launch WeASSIST – enables full transparency over all workstations, machines and plants.
2026
Another new building will increase the production, storage and logistics space by 5,000 m².
